Overview

Piprate is a blockchain-based data-infrastructure provider for insurance and reinsurance data exchange, serving carriers, brokers, and reinsurers that need to share sensitive data without giving up custody of it.

Its core framework, MetaLocker, stores data in user-controlled "lockers" and lets the owner grant selective, revocable access to specific counterparties, producing an auditable record of what was shared, when, and under what terms. ChainLocker extends this into an enterprise data-sharing platform built on MetaLocker, with AES-256 encrypted "Vaults," a Hyperledger Fabric connector for permissioned-ledger deployments, and support for multiple storage backends including AWS, on-premise file systems, and IPFS. A dedicated insurance solution applies the same architecture to underwriting data submission, reinsurance exposure exchange, and claims collaboration with a documented chain of custody.

The company is based in Dublin, Ireland, with a small team (1-10 employees) and no publicly disclosed funding rounds. It piloted the technology with RenaissanceRe and TigerRisk Partners in a 2018 proof of concept on bidirectional exposure-data transfer, and collaborated with Babel Cover and Atlas Insurance on a digital bicycle-insurance product in 2020; neither relationship is confirmed as an active deployment today. Piprate relaunched its website in February 2026, broadening its positioning from an insurance-specific platform to general-purpose infrastructure for data exchange, while continuing to maintain a dedicated insurance solution page.

Products & Services

MetaLocker

Core data-distribution framework providing secure, privacy-preserving exchange of data across individuals, organizations, and ecosystems. Data remains in user-controlled storage under encryption, with defined access boundaries.

Key Features

  • Selective sharing: grant access to specific parties for specific datasets
  • Provenance and auditability: records of what was shared, when, and under what terms
  • Revocable access

Target Users: Insurance, healthcare, research, and AI model-training organizations

ChainLocker

Enterprise data-sharing platform built on top of MetaLocker, providing encrypted "Vaults" for corporate data storage and bidirectional communication channels between transaction participants with visibility limited to approved parties.

Key Features

  • AES-256 end-to-end encrypted Vaults
  • Hyperledger Fabric connector for permissioned-ledger deployments
  • Multiple storage backends: file systems, cloud storage, IPFS, and web services
  • AWS cloud-native deployment option
  • Immutable provenance chains intended for regulatory and legal review

Target Users: Insurance and financial-services organizations handling multi-party data collaboration and regulatory compliance

Sequel

Collaboration platform for communities, teams, and ecosystems that connect their own data lockers rather than uploading data to a central platform, and define how insights, comments, or outcomes are shared among participants.

Target Users: Multi-party groups coordinating on shared services without pooling underlying data
