Overview

OrbitCover is a parametric travel insurance platform for consumers in India, offering automatic-payout flight and baggage delay coverage. Developed by MedPiper Technologies (Y Combinator S20, 2020), the product operates under the IRDAI Regulatory Sandbox in partnership with licensed insurance carriers.

The platform delivers coverage via real-time trigger logic: flight delay coverage activates when a delay exceeds two hours, and baggage delay coverage triggers when luggage is delayed more than six hours after passenger arrival. Payouts settle automatically via UPI/IMPS within 15 minutes, with no manual claim submission required from the policyholder. Flight data is sourced from official airline APIs cross-verified against DGCA systems.

OrbitCover is at the early-access stage, having gathered hundreds of testers through a signup program. Parent company MedPiper has raised USD 250K across three funding rounds from investors including Enrission India Capital, Nurture Ventures, Iterative Accelerator, and Kube VC, in addition to the Y Combinator S20 accelerator investment.
