Jumpstart Insurance
Parametric earthquake insurance with automatic payouts triggered by USGS seismic data -- no adjusters, no paperwork, no deductibles.
Overview
Jumpstart Insurance is a parametric earthquake insurance provider for consumers and small businesses in California, Oregon, and Washington. Founded in 2015 by structural engineer Kate Stillwell, the company was built to close the earthquake protection gap for residents and businesses in seismically active regions.
The platform uses USGS seismic data as a parametric trigger rather than traditional damage assessment. When a qualifying earthquake occurs, Jumpstart automatically sends payout notifications via SMS and processes payments within hours -- with no adjusters, no paperwork, and no deductibles. Individual policyholders receive USD 10,000 and small businesses receive USD 20,000 upon a qualifying event. Policies are underwritten by Lloyd's of London syndicates, and Jumpstart operates as a licensed surplus lines insurance broker in CA, OR, and WA.
In October 2021, Jumpstart was acquired by Neptune Flood, Inc., an insurtech managing general agent, and operates as a wholly owned subsidiary under the Neptune Flood portfolio. Neptune Flood agents can distribute Jumpstart products through the Neptune Agent Portal. Prior to acquisition, the company raised USD 3.56M from investors including Atlas InsurTech, Barclay Street Ventures, Berkeley Angel Network, Insurtech Gateway, and Plug and Play Tech Center.
