Guarda
Parametric climate insurance for Brazilian agribusiness, powered by satellite data
Overview
Guarda is a parametric insurance provider for agricultural producers in Brazil, offering coverage against extreme climate events including drought and excess rainfall. The company targets rural producers, cooperatives, and financial institutions operating in the Brazilian agribusiness sector.
The platform delivers climate insurance contracts triggered automatically by satellite-monitored weather indices. When contractual thresholds are reached -- such as cumulative rainfall below or above agreed levels -- payment is issued within 30 days via PIX, Brazil's instant payment system, without field inspections or claim adjustments. All indemnities are backed by European reinsurance groups. The platform also organizes agricultural data from multiple sources to support portfolio monitoring, credit scoring, and origination decisions for cooperatives, banks, and trading companies.
Founded in 2024, Guarda completed a pre-seed round of R$ 4.5M in December 2025, led by Randon Ventures (the corporate venture arm of Randoncorp, a major Brazilian agroindustrial group) alongside Colligo and several angel investors with backgrounds in reinsurance, fintech, and agribusiness. The company was targeting coverage of 5,000-10,000 hectares during its early commercial validation phase in 2026.
