Overview

BIMA is a digital microinsurance distribution platform serving consumers in emerging markets across Africa and Asia. The company connects low-income populations with affordable life, health, and accident insurance products through mobile network infrastructure, enabling customers to register, pay premiums, and file claims entirely through mobile channels including USSD, SMS, and messaging apps.

The platform distributes products through partnerships with mobile operators, microfinance institutions, and banking partners, with daily micropremium payments deducted directly from airtime credit or mobile wallet accounts. BIMA also operates B-Care, a health subscription product that integrates telemedicine consultations, diagnostics, and insurance coverage into a single cashless service delivered through a network of clinics, laboratories, pharmacies, and hospitals. The underlying technology stack uses the OutSystems low-code platform to build integrations across 21+ payment platforms and mobile operator APIs across its markets.

BIMA has reached over 36 million customers across 14 markets, with 31 million active subscribers and approximately 5 million actively paying monthly customers. The company is backed by Allianz X, LeapFrog Investments, Kinnevik, and CreditEase. In May 2026, BIMA entered a non-binding USD 119M strategic framework with Mobile-health Network Solutions (MNDR, Nasdaq) and Hector Capital targeting a combined digital healthcare and insurance platform for emerging markets.
