Aerobotics
Precision agriculture intelligence platform for growers, packers, and agricultural insurers
Overview
Aerobotics is an agricultural data and analytics platform for fruit growers, packers, and agricultural insurers. The company provides aerial and ground imagery processed through computer vision and AI to generate per-tree insights on crop health, yield potential, fruit sizing, and pest and disease indicators. Its primary platform, Aeroview, serves over 1,000 farmers across 18 countries, with particular depth in perennial tree crops such as citrus, grapes, and avocados.
The platform ingests drone and satellite imagery on a weekly cadence, combining it with scout reports to produce zone-level and individual-tree performance data. Insurers access this data layer to assess agricultural risk with greater precision than traditional methods allow -- enabling more accurate premium setting, faster claims verification, and improved reinsurance pricing. From 2022 to 2025, Aerobotics operated Aerobotics Crop Insurance Services (ACIS), a crop insurance agency built directly on the Aeroview platform; that division was spun out in November 2025 as the independent entity Insure.ag, which continues to use Aerobotics' technology.
Founded in Cape Town in 2014 by James Paterson (CEO) and Benji Meltzer (CTO), Aerobotics has raised approximately USD 21-27M across Seed, Series A (USD 2.08M from Nedbank in 2019), and Series B rounds led by Naspers Foundry. In 2026, the company was selected as one of five participants in the John Deere Startup Collaborator Program, focused on data-driven agricultural insights, advanced sensing, and analytics.
