Layr
AI-powered broker platform that turns small commercial insurance from a cost center into a profit center.
Overview
Layr is an Atlanta-based insurance technology company that enables independent commercial insurance brokerages to profitably manage and scale their small business property and casualty books. Founded in 2016 as UnBrokerage by Phillip Naples -- a traditional commercial insurance broker -- and Andrew Egenes, a technology entrepreneur who was Naples' client, the company rebranded to Layr in 2018 after refining its product and securing early angel investment.
The company's platform, Layr Apex, gives brokers a white-labelled digital portal where small business clients can manage their coverage around the clock -- getting quotes, binding policies, submitting claims, and accessing documents -- without requiring broker staff involvement for routine transactions. This frees brokerage teams to focus on higher-value work and allows agencies to grow their small commercial books without proportional headcount increases.
In October 2024 Layr appointed Mark Hara as CEO, bringing a career spanning P&G, Nationwide, Bold Penguin, Mylo, and FloodFlash. Founder Phillip Naples transitioned to Chief Strategy Officer, focused on enterprise partnerships and company strategy.
