Overview

ETAP (Easy TAP) is a mobile-first car insurance platform for consumers in Africa, offering instant policy purchase and rapid claims settlement through a smartphone app. The company targets Nigeria's large underinsured vehicle market -- approximately 2.5 million of 12 million registered vehicles carry insurance -- and has expanded to Ghana, where it operates as ETAP-Hollard.

The platform enables customers to buy a policy in approximately 90 seconds and submit a claim in roughly 3 minutes via photo-based submission with geolocation tagging. Coverage options include per-trip, daily, weekly, monthly, and annual plans. Risk-based pricing is calibrated to individual driving behavior using telematics data: speed, phone handling, and navigation patterns. A gamified rewards layer awards points for safe driving, redeemable at retailers such as SPAR, Jumia, and Shoprite, as well as for fuel and entertainment vouchers.

ETAP raised a USD 1.5M pre-seed round in April 2022 led by Mobility 54 (the corporate venture arm of Toyota Tsusho and CFAO Group), Tangerine Insurance, and Graph Ventures. At launch in November 2021 the platform attracted over 1,000 users; by 2023 the community had logged more than 3 million km of insured trips across 10 Nigerian states. The company won the Best Car Insurance App in Africa award at the 2023 Global Excellence Awards.
