Overview

CelsiusPro is a Swiss insurtech group specializing in parametric insurance technology for climate and natural catastrophe (NatCat) risk. Founded in 2008 by Mark Ruegg, the company unites climate technology, data science, risk modelling, and committed risk capacity to develop and distribute parametric insurance solutions globally.

The company operates a parametric insurance platform -- ParameterPro -- that enables insurers, reinsurers, and brokers to structure, underwrite, and manage parametric products that pay out based on predefined triggers (such as wind speed, rainfall, or earthquake magnitude) rather than traditional indemnity claims. CelsiusPro ingests approximately 120 million climate and NatCat data points daily to power its risk modelling capabilities.

In September 2023, CelsiusPro acquired Global Parametrics Ltd, a London-based firm managing the Natural Disaster Fund -- a risk capacity pool backed by the British and German governments. This acquisition significantly expanded the group's operational capacity and global presence, adding offices in London and capabilities in frontier and developing markets.

CelsiusPro serves international insurers, reinsurers, government agencies, and program partners across Europe, Australia, the Pacific, Africa, and the Caribbean, and is actively expanding into the Americas. The company is recognized as a pioneer in the parametric insurance space and has been named a Top Insurtech in Europe in 2018 and 2019.
