Protecting What Matters Most -- specialized high-net-worth insurance for affluent individuals and families
Overview
Vault Insurance is an independent-agent-distributed personal lines carrier specializing in high-net-worth coverage across all 50 U.S. states. Founded in October 2017 by Scott Carmilani, former CEO of Allied World Assurance Company, the company focuses on protecting affluent individuals and families with properties valued over USD 2 million. Vault operates from offices in Saint Petersburg, West Palm Beach, New York, and Chicago, and also runs a commercial lines division through its in-house Managing General Agent, Combination Specialty Underwriters (CSU), which writes specialty and excess and surplus lines coverage on behalf of Vault E&S Insurance Company or third-party carrier partners.
Vault distributes personal lines products through independent agents, high-net-worth financial advisors, and specialty insurance brokers. The company provides policyholders with digital portals for policy management and bill payment, a 24/7 claims hotline, and an online knowledge hub. CSU operates as a technology-enabled underwriting unit, providing specialty commercial coverage for niche and hard-to-place risks.
Vault received an AM Best A- (Excellent) rating with a stable outlook in November 2025, its third consecutive year of income despite industry-wide pressure from California wildfire losses. The company is privately held, majority-owned by Cornell Capital and Hudson Structured Capital Management following their acquisition of a controlling stake from Fairfax Financial Holdings and Allied World Assurance in 2020-2021. Fairfax Financial retained a 10% minority stake. The company rolled out a refreshed brand identity in August 2025.
