USAA
Insurance, banking, and financial services exclusively for the U.S. military community.
Overview
USAA (United Services Automobile Association) is a direct-to-member mutual carrier offering auto, home, life, and health insurance along with banking and investment services, serving exclusively U.S. military members, veterans, and their eligible family members. Founded in 1922 by 25 Army officers who pooled resources to insure each others automobiles, the company now serves approximately 13 million members and ranks 93rd on the Fortune 500. All distribution is direct -- USAA operates no captive agent network.
The company is fully digital-first, delivering all products through online and mobile channels. Its technology initiatives include the SafePilot usage-based auto insurance program, AI-driven claims processing, and a modern digital banking platform. In 2021 USAA acquired insurtech firm Noblr to expand its telematics-based pricing capabilities. The company returned a record USD 3.8 billion to members in 2025.
USAA carries an AM Best A++ (Superior) financial strength rating and holds licenses across all 50 states. Its direct written premium exceeds USD 22 billion annually. Juan C. Andrade became President and CEO in April 2025, and Dan Griffiths joined as Chief Information Officer in February 2026.
