TypTap Insurance Company

TypTap Insurance Company is an independent-agent-distributed property insurance carrier founded in 2016 as a wholly owned subsidiary of HCI Group, Inc. The carrier writes homeowners and private flood coverage across more than 20 US states, with operations headquartered in Ocala, Florida. TypTap originated as Florida's first licensed private flood insurer and expanded into homeowners insurance in 2018.

The company operates an entirely proprietary technology platform that enables sub-one-minute bindable quotes for most risks. Its underwriting engine uses satellite imagery, rooftop-level property data, and a proprietary Insurance Geographical Database to return elevation, flood zone, and property type data in real time. The end-to-end policy administration system covers quoting, binding, endorsements, renewals, and digital claims filing without dependency on third-party software vendors. In March 2025, HCI Group separated the technology operations into a newly incorporated entity called Exzeo Group Inc. Exzeo completed an IPO on NYSE under the ticker XZO in November 2025 and now provides technology and reinsurance services to HCI's carriers and third-party insurers. HCI retained approximately 82.5% ownership of Exzeo as of December 2025.

TypTap operates with a Demotech "A" Exceptional financial stability rating and holds an A+ Better Business Bureau rating. The company had net admitted assets of USD 464.1M as of Q1 2024 and is backed by a diversified global reinsurance program that includes affiliated reinsurer Claddaugh.
