Overview
Tinkoff (now operating as T-Bank since June 2024) is one of Russia's largest digital-first financial services conglomerates. Founded in 2006 by entrepreneur Oleg Tinkov, the company pioneered branchless, app-based banking and insurance distribution in Russia. The insurance operations are branded as T-Insurance, a licensed direct insurer under TCS Group Holding IPJSC.
T-Insurance has captured a top-10 position among Russia's largest insurance companies by gross written premium, driven entirely through digital distribution via the T-Bank mobile ecosystem with 55+ million customers as of 2025 (following the January 2025 Rosbank merger). Following 2022-related sanctions, Vladimir Potanin's Interros investment group acquired founder Oleg Tinkov's controlling stake and now holds 41.4% of TCS Holding (as of August 2024).
The company represents a pure-play digital insurance model: all policy sales, management, and claims occur entirely within the T-Bank mobile app with no agent or broker distribution. Core insurance technology infrastructure is built on the Guidewire InsuranceSuite platform with proprietary digital layers developed by T-Technologies.
