Overview
The Geneva Association (formally the International Association for the Study of Insurance Economics) is a nonprofit research institute focused on insurance economics, global risk, and the role of insurance in economic development. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, it operates with a membership composed exclusively of CEOs from insurance and reinsurance companies.
The organization publishes thematic research reports, a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal (The Geneva Papers on Risk and Insurance), and conference proceedings (Etudes et Dossiers). Its nine core research work streams span climate change, cyber risk, digital and AI transformation, demographic transitions, financial inclusion, macroeconomic shifts, population health, public policy, and evolving liability. Research is available free of charge on the organization website.
Membership is capped at 100 CEO-level representatives from the world's largest insurance and reinsurance groups. Member companies collectively manage USD 21 trillion in assets, cover approximately 2.6 billion people, and are headquartered across 26 countries. The organization engages with multilateral bodies including the G20, Financial Stability Board, IAIS, OECD, IMF, and World Bank on insurance policy and regulation.
