Spot was founded in 2019 and operates customizable plans with no per-incident deductibles, reimbursing up to 90% of eligible veterinary expenses. Plans are supported by a 24/7 veterinary telehealth service and a mobile app for claims submission.
Independence Pet Holdings acquired a majority stake in Spot in June 2024 after an initial partnership in 2022. Under this arrangement, Independence Pet Holdings handles underwriting authority, claims administration, customer service, and back-office operations. As of February 2026, Spot serves over one million pet parents nationwide, supported by 63% year-over-year premium growth in 2024.
