Overview
Somers Re Ltd. is a privately held, Bermuda-based specialty property and casualty reinsurer. Originally established in 2014 as Watford Re, the company was relaunched under its current name in November 2021 following a strategic repositioning by Arch Capital Group Ltd. toward a more traditional reinsurance model. The Somers Re name pays tribute to Sir George Somers, the historical founder of Bermuda.
The company underwrites specialty reinsurance across casualty, property, mortgage, and marine lines, serving cedents in the US, UK, and European markets. Underwriting operations are performed by Arch Capital Group Property & Casualty subsidiaries, giving Somers Re access to Arch Reinsurance's established expertise and market relationships.
