Sofia is a direct-to-consumer digital health insurance carrier licensed in Mexico by the CNSF (National Insurance and Bonding Commission) as a Specialized Health Insurance Institution (ISES), offering major medical and preventive health coverage to individuals, families, and SMEs. It is the only fully digital insurer regulated under the CNSF framework in Mexico. The company was co-founded in 2018 by Arturo Sanchez Correa, Sebastian Jimenez-Bonnet, and Manuel Andere -- data scientists who met at ITAM and hold graduate degrees from Stanford, Harvard, and UCL -- and began serving customers in early 2020.

Operations are fully app and web-based, with a zero-deductible model and AI-assisted claims processing. Sofia operates its own medical network comprising 155+ hospitals, 400+ clinics, and 1,800+ physicians across Mexico, and processes reimbursements in an average of five business days. Unlimited telemedicine consultations, primary care physician assignment, and coverage for medications during treatment are included by default across its plans. The tech stack runs on Amazon AWS and Cloudflare, with RESTful and GraphQL API layers enabling integration with HR platforms and third-party tooling.

As of 2025, Sofia serves over 1,300 SME clients and has doubled both its customer base and revenue year-over-year. The company has raised USD 46M+ across multiple rounds led by Index Ventures and Kaszek, with participation from Kfund, IDB Lab, Felix Jahn Investments, and the European Investment Fund (14 investors total).
