Overview

The Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) is a trade association serving the professional liability insurance industry, with membership open to underwriters, brokers, claims professionals, and executives across North America, Europe, and Asia. Founded in 1990 by Angelo J. Gioia, the organization has grown from roughly 300 founding members to more than 45,000 practitioners today.

PLUS delivers educational programs, professional designations, and industry events focused exclusively on professional liability lines. Its core credential, the RPLU (Registered Professional Liability Underwriter) designation, is supplemented by the CPLP and ExecPLP certifications and a series of specialty certificates covering areas such as cyber liability, D&O, E&O, and medical professional liability. The organization also publishes the monthly PLUS Journal and maintains an online learning portal at learn.plusweb.org.

The association operates more than 12 regional chapters across the United States, Canada, and Southeast Asia and convenes major annual gatherings including the PLUS Annual Conference, the D&O Symposium, the Cyber Symposium, the EPL Symposium, and the Healthcare and Medical Professional Liability Symposium. A separate charitable arm, the PLUS Foundation (501(c)(3)), supports industry education initiatives through fundraising events.
