Policen Direkt
Digital insurance brokerage and secondary market platform for traded endowment policies
Overview
Policen Direkt is a Frankfurt-based insurance brokerage and secondary market platform for traded endowment policies (TEPs), serving private and commercial customers in Germany and Austria. The company was founded in 2003 by WHU alumni Max Ahlers, Simon Nörtersheuser, and Sebastian Siebert.
The group operates two core business lines: a secondary market for capital life insurance policies (Lebensversicherung im Zweitmarkt), through which it buys, administers, and sells German and Austrian endowment policies; and a digital brokerage for life, health, and property & casualty insurance. It distributes through direct online channels and a network of more than 15,000 partner brokers, banks, and financial institutions. Subsidiary Frankfurter Fondsverwaltung GmbH handles fund administration, and European Policy Exchange Limited (EPEX) in London supports cross-border TEP activity.
The company manages approximately EUR 1 billion in traded endowment policy assets, representing the largest TEP asset manager in Germany, and has accumulated policy portfolios valued at around EUR 2.5 billion since inception, with more than 100,000 clients served. Policen Direkt also acts as an investor and incubator in the insurtech sector, having founded Covomo (a comparison portal for niche insurance products) and Gewerbeversicherung24 (a commercial insurance platform), and holds minority stakes in other fintech and insurtech ventures.
