PetExpert

PetExpert is a direct-to-consumer pet health insurance carrier operating in the Czech Republic, offering accident and illness coverage for dogs and cats. Founded in 2018, the company holds the distinction of being the first fully online pet insurance provider in the Czech Republic, distributing policies exclusively through digital channels. It operates in partnership with CSOB Pojistovna as the licensed underwriter and Royal Blue s.r.o. as the claims handler. PetExpert has since expanded its geographic reach to Slovakia and Belgium, where it works with KBC Insurance as the local underwriting partner.

The company processes approximately 75% of claims within five minutes through automated claims handling, with the ability to pay contracted veterinary clinics directly rather than reimbursing policyholders. Its veterinary network covers approximately 90% of Czech clinics, enabling policyholders to access treatment without upfront payment in most cases. Policy management and claims submission are handled entirely online.

In November 2022, PetExpert was acquired by Trupanion, a US-based pet health insurance company with over two decades of operational experience. The acquisition provided PetExpert with capital access and operational infrastructure to support its European expansion into Slovakia and Belgium markets.
