Orchid Insurance
Personal catastrophe property MGA with proprietary digital underwriting platform
Overview
Orchid Insurance (Orchid Underwriters Agency, LLC) is a personal lines property MGA and managing general underwriter (MGU) specializing in catastrophe-exposed residential insurance. Founded in 1998 and headquartered in Vero Beach, Florida, the company distributes homeowners, wind, flood, and builders risk coverage through a network of over 10,000 licensed agents and brokers across all 50 states, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean. Orchid was acquired by Brown & Brown, Inc. in April 2022 and now operates within the National Programs (Arrowhead Programs) segment.
The company underwrites across a portfolio of approximately a dozen A-rated or better admitted and E&S carriers, offering homeowners, wind-only, private flood, excess flood, and builders risk programs. Its proprietary Marketplace portal serves as the central technology platform for agents, enabling digital quoting, binding, endorsements, payments, and policy document access from a single interface. In 2020, Orchid co-launched TRUE (Trusted Resource Underwriters Exchange), a reciprocal insurance carrier for catastrophe-exposed coastal states, in partnership with Homesite Group.
Orchid underwrites more than USD 370 million premium-in-force as of 2024, making it one of the largest personal lines E&S managing general underwriters in the United States. The company holds a Great Place to Work certification (2025) and continues to invest in data analytics, digital underwriting tools, and catastrophe exposure management technology to support agent-distributed growth.
