Overview
Omaha National is an open-brokerage workers compensation carrier licensed in 37 states, headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. Founded in 2016 with its first policy issued in October 2017, the company distributes exclusively through independent agencies -- currently more than 2,500 -- and requires no agency appointment, reducing friction for retail agents and brokers. Its primary markets are small-to-midsize employers in construction, package delivery, landscaping, manufacturing, and skilled trades, with California as its largest state.
The carrier operates primarily on CompOS (Compensation Operations System), a proprietary enterprise platform developed entirely in-house that consolidates underwriting, policy management, claims adjusting, utilization review, premium audit, investigations, resolution/recovery, and sales/CRM into a single integrated application. Artificial intelligence is incorporated into CompOS workflows to drive efficiency in claims closure rates, incurred development, and premium-per-claim metrics. In April 2024, Omaha National acquired Sutter Insurance Company (renamed Omaha National Casualty Company), enabling it to underwrite directly on its own paper in California and expanding its full-stack carrier footprint nationwide.
Omaha National holds an AM Best A- (Excellent) financial strength rating, first assigned in 2022 and maintained through 2026. The company has raised approximately USD 122M in total capital, including a USD 45M Series B in September 2021 led by Accomplice, a USD 18M Series B extension in 2024, and USD 20M in unsecured senior debt from Cohen & Co. As of early 2024, in-force premium exceeded USD 200 million.
