Kshema General Insurance is a direct-to-consumer carrier licensed by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI, Registration No. 162), offering crop and agriculture insurance products to small and marginal farmers across India. The company operates as a fully digital carrier targeting the 86% of Indian farmers who own small or marginal landholdings, covering 127 agro-climatic zones and more than 100 crop varieties.
The company differentiates through its proprietary I AGRI (Kshema Cognitive Engine) platform, which combines satellite imagery, spatial-temporal algorithms, geo-tagging, and remote sensing to assess and price risk at the individual farm level. The mobile-first platform supports iOS and Android and offers paperless onboarding, multilingual access in 10+ regional languages, and automated 48-hour claims settlement. Distribution is direct-to-consumer with a 5% incentive for mobile app purchases.
As of March 31, 2026, Kshema held a total sum insured of INR 28,321 Crores and a gross written premium of INR 2,396 Crores. The company received a USD 20M Series B investment from the Green Climate Fund in November 2025, designated for scaling coverage to uninsured regions and reinforcing its agricultural risk data infrastructure. Kshema was named Fastest Growing Insurance Company at the India Insurance Summit & Awards 2026.
