InsurTech Network Centre
Facilitating collaboration between the Irish insurance industry and insurtech startups through an academic innovation hub.
Overview
InsurTech Network Centre (INC) is an insurance innovation platform hosted at South East Technological University (SETU) Carlow, Ireland, serving the Irish insurance industry and insurtech startup community. Established in November 2018 and funded by Enterprise Ireland under the Government of Ireland Regional Development Fund, INC operates from a purpose-built EUR 1 million facility on the SETU Kilkenny Road Campus in Carlow.
INC operates through three activity pillars: INC Start, a commercially focused accelerator pairing startups with insurance firms without taking equity; INC Expand, which provides education and training programs including diplomas, masterclasses, and CPD content; and INC Engage, offering access to SETU Carlow research and development capabilities covering AI, data analytics, IoT, blockchain, design thinking, and cyber risk consulting. In September 2021, INC launched CIRDAS (Centre for Insurance, Risk and Data Analytics Studies), funded by the Higher Education Authority, which delivers accredited programmes and subsidized education for the Irish insurance sector.
INC operates with a national remit, working with a diverse panel of insurers and insurtechs across Ireland and internationally. Partners include Enterprise Ireland, AXA Ireland, Insurtech Ireland, First Derivative, the Society of Actuaries in Ireland, and ATU Donegal Letterkenny as an academic collaborator. The centre also functions as a Connected Hub, providing co-working facilities, conference rooms, and broadband infrastructure for resident startups and industry participants.
