INSURLAB GERMANY
The official InsurTech Hub of Germany -- connecting the insurance ecosystem through networking, venture clienting, and capability building.
Overview
InsurLab Germany e.V. is a nonprofit industry association and the official InsurTech Hub of Germany, operating under the federal government's de:hub digital competence center initiative. The organization brings together established insurers, startups and scale-ups, technology providers, academic institutions, and service providers to advance insurance innovation. Founded in 2017 in Cologne through a joint initiative of the City of Cologne, the Cologne Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), the University of Cologne, Cologne Technical University, incumbent insurers, and startups, it is supported by the Federal Ministry for Digital and State Modernization (BMDS) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE).
The organization runs structured programs including its flagship Collaborator initiative -- a 6-month venture clienting program matching startups with major insurers -- as well as insureNXT (an international congress co-organized with Koelnmesse), Topic Days, Topic Groups, Masterclasses, Bootcamps, and the InsurLab Academy professional development division. From 2026, its strategic focus sharpened around AI scaling, venture clienting, and organizational future-readiness.
As of 2026, InsurLab Germany counts 103 member organizations including 29+ insurance companies, a network of 250+ startups, and over 112 recorded cooperations since 2018. The board is chaired by Peter Stockhorst (CDO, Zurich Group Germany). Member insurers include AXA, Zurich, HDI, R+V, LVM, DEVK, VHV Gruppe, and BarmeniaGothaer.
