Overview

The Geospatial Insurance Consortium (GIC) is an insurance industry consortium affiliated with the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) that provides property insurers with access to an aerial imagery and geospatial data program. Operating on a nonprofit cost-sharing model, GIC gives member carriers affordable access to high-resolution aerial photography and AI-powered property analytics. Since 2017, Vexcel has served as the operations partner responsible for imagery capture and delivery. In 2025, GIC formally unified with the Vexcel brand to accelerate product development, though member contracts and services remain unchanged.

GIC programs include regular aerial capture across the continental United States and selected international markets, a rapid disaster response imagery program, AI-powered property attribute extraction, and digital surface modeling. Data is accessible via APIs, ArcGIS Image Services, and a web-based viewer. Coverage spans 99.6% of the U.S. population across approximately 127 million households, with international coverage across Canada, Puerto Rico, Western Europe, the UK, Scandinavia, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.

The consortium was originally established by NICB to support insurance fraud prevention through aerial imagery, and has since expanded to underwriting, remote inspections, claims processing, catastrophe response, and risk analytics across the property insurance value chain. Membership represents more than 90% of U.S. property insurance market providers.
