Overview

Geosite was a geospatial intelligence software company founded in 2018 by Rachel Olney (Stanford Ph.D., Forbes 30-Under-30) to serve the property and casualty insurance industry. The company built a SaaS platform that aggregated, visualized, and analyzed geospatial data from over 28 providers -- including satellites, drones, aircraft, and stratospheric balloons -- to help insurers make more accurate underwriting, reserving, and claims decisions.

Backed by Y Combinator, Lavrock Ventures, NextGen Venture Partners, Bee Partners, MS&AD Ventures, and QBE Ventures, Geosite developed enterprise GIS solutions for commercial property insurance. The platform enabled insurers to achieve precise location accuracy through multi-geocoder fusion and to quantify natural catastrophe exposure at the portfolio level.

In April 2024, Descartes Labs acquired all of Geosite operating assets, with founder Rachel Olney continuing to lead the insurance technology business within Descartes Labs. By the time of acquisition, Geosite had grown to 182 customers and USD 3.1M in annual revenue.
