DGAG
Canada's second-largest P&C insurer, offering auto, home, and commercial coverage through the Desjardins cooperative network and digital channels.
Overview
DGAG (Desjardins Groupe d'Assurances Generales) is the cooperative-distribution P&C insurance carrier operating as the general insurance arm of Desjardins Group, Canada's largest cooperative financial institution. The company offers personal auto, home, and commercial insurance primarily in Quebec and across Canada, distributing through the Desjardins caisse branch network, independent agents, and direct digital channels. With approximately 13.5% national market share, DGAG ranks as the second-largest P&C insurer in Canada and holds 28% market share in Quebec home insurance and 14.2% in auto.
The company operates a telematics-based usage insurance program, Ajusto, launched in 2013 and expanded via a dedicated smartphone app in March 2015 -- among the first app-based UBI programs in North America. Ajusto uses smartphone sensors, in partnership with Cambridge Mobile Telematics, to collect driving behavior data and deliver personalized pricing discounts for safe driving. For home insurance, DGAG partners with Roost Home telematics for an alert monitoring program. The company also offers CyberSuite Plus, a bundled commercial insurance product launched in 2025-2026 combining multiple coverages with fraud protection for SMEs.
DGAG is a wholly owned subsidiary of Desjardins Group, which reported CAD 3.81 billion in surplus earnings before member dividends in 2025, a 14% year-over-year gain. As a cooperative structure, Desjardins distributes ristournes (member rebates) from surplus earnings. The company serves over two million policyholders across Canada through approximately 500 agents and digital self-service channels.
