COGITANDA
Cyber insurance and damage management for businesses and households in Germany and Austria.
Overview
COGITANDA is a German cyber insurance carrier writing coverage for businesses and private households in Germany and Austria. Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Altenahr, the company provides policies against identity theft, financial losses, business interruption, and reputation damage from cyber incidents. Commercial coverage extends to companies with annual revenues of up to EUR 250M.
Following the 2023 death of its founder, Joerg Waelder, the company entered a period of financial difficulty and filed for insolvency in November 2024. Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Cybersicherheit (DGC Group), an IT security firm based in Flensburg, Germany, acquired COGITANDA through an asset deal in 2025. Claims administration was transferred to DGC Insurance Services GmbH, while the COGITANDA brand was retained under the new parent.
Post-acquisition, COGITANDA operates as part of an integrated cyber risk platform combining prevention, monitoring, insurance coverage, and crisis management services. The company distributes through a broker and agent partner network alongside direct channels in the German-speaking market.
