Overview

Casava is a direct-to-consumer microinsurance carrier licensed by Nigeria's National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), offering health, income protection, business, and renewable energy insurance products to individuals and small businesses. It was the first licensed microinsurance underwriter in Nigeria and distributes coverage via web, mobile app, and WhatsApp.

The company operates a proprietary full-stack technology platform supporting end-to-end digital policy issuance, claims submission, and customer management. Its WhatsApp-based distribution channel and hospital network of over 400 partners extend access to policyholders who may not engage through traditional channels. Premiums are structured for Nigeria's mass market, with health plans starting as low as NGN 600 per month.

Since its founding in 2016, Casava has grown to serve over 95,000 policyholders with USD 23 million in coverage in force. The company raised a USD 4 million pre-seed round in 2022 -- at the time the largest pre-seed for an African insurtech -- backed by Target Global and Entree Capital. It became the first insurtech and microinsurance company admitted to the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) in October 2022.
