Connecting startups, corporates, and investors to accelerate insurance innovation in Spain
Overview
Barcelona Insurhub (HUB INNOVACION INSURTECH) is an innovation hub and accelerator community focused on insurtech, fintech, legaltech, health, and social impact sectors, serving startups, established insurers, and investors in the Spanish market. Founded in November 2020, it operates as a physical and virtual meeting point in central Barcelona, providing workspace, mentorship, and investor access to early-stage insurance technology ventures.
The hub runs a free online acceleration program for startups at any stage, covering commercialization, financing, mentorship, and pilot project facilitation with corporate partners. Its signature event, the Insurtech Investment Forum, has been held annually since 2021, giving selected startups direct access to business angels, venture capitalists, and insurance corporations. The third edition in November 2023 was the first held in person at the Auditori Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona.
Barcelona Insurhub was founded by three Spanish mutual insurance organizations -- La Mutua de los Ingenieros, Alter Mutua de Abogados y Abogadas, and Mutual Medica -- in partnership with startup accelerator Accelgrow. Additional sponsors include MGC Mutua and Sinera. At launch in 2020, the hub enrolled over 50 companies.
