AUTO CLUB ENTERPRISES
The largest AAA club in the United States, providing insurance, roadside assistance, and travel services to more than 18 million members across 22 states.
Overview
Auto Club Enterprises is the holding company for the Automobile Club of Southern California (AAA SoCal), founded on December 13, 1900 in Los Angeles as one of the nation's first motor clubs. Originally organized to advocate for road improvements and standardize traffic signage, it has grown into the largest single club within the AAA federation and one of the most prominent personal-lines carriers in the western United States.
Today the organization serves nearly 8 million members in Southern California and, through its network of affiliated clubs, more than 18 million members across 22 states. Headquartered in Costa Mesa, California -- with additional administrative offices in Los Angeles -- Auto Club Enterprises maintains an annual budget exceeding USD 2 billion and employs approximately 16,000 staff.
The company operates as a mutual/nonprofit enterprise under the AAA federation model. Insurance is underwritten through the Interinsurance Exchange of the Automobile Club (NAIC Group 1318) and affiliated entities. In 2024, Auto Club Enterprises completed the acquisition of Wawanesa General Insurance Company, the U.S. subsidiary of Wawanesa Mutual, extending its California and Oregon book of business and welcoming an established team with a J.D. Power #1 customer service track record.
