The company was founded in 2017 by Saif AlJaibeji and Noor AlKamil in partnership with the Department of Economic Development, Government of Ras Al Khaimah, and obtained its TPA license in February 2018. The name is a portmanteau of "seha" (Arabic for health) and "teq" (technology).

The company operates a proprietary AI-powered platform that automates health insurance sales and post-sale operations, including customer onboarding, enrollment, claims processing, and customer service queries. Its evidence-based rules engine is designed to automate up to 100% of back-office work. Coverage applies to expatriates and UAE nationals for routine care, emergency services, hospitalization, maternity, and prescriptions, with worldwide coverage excluding Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

By 2021, Sehteq had scaled to over 700,000 customers and generated USD 47M in revenues across three years, reaching a position as the 4th largest health insurance provider in the UAE and a leading insurtech in the MENA region. The company was acquired by Cloud Klair, a Boston-based cloud computing and SaaS company, in October 2021 to support its expansion into the MENA market.
