Founded in 1965 as a foreign branch of British-American Insurance Company Limited, Britam has grown into one of Africa's largest and most diversified insurance and financial services groups, operating across seven African countries: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, Malawi, and Mozambique.

Britam holds the top position as Kenya's number one life insurer for 19 consecutive years (as of 2026), commanding a 25% life market share. The Group posted a record FY 2025 pre-tax profit of KES 7.9 billion (an 8% increase year-over-year), with insurance revenue rising 11% to KES 41.7 billion and total assets reaching KES 243 billion.
