## Overview

Aviva plc is the UK and Ireland's largest diversified insurance group and one of the UK's oldest financial institutions, tracing its roots to 1696. The modern Aviva was formed in 2000 from the merger of Norwich Union and CGU plc. The company provides general insurance (property and casualty), life insurance, health insurance, and wealth management products to approximately 25.2 million customers across the UK, Ireland, and Canada.

Since 2020, under Group CEO Dame Amanda Blanc, Aviva executed a major strategic reshaping -- divesting operations across France, Italy, Poland, Turkey, and Asia to refocus on core markets where it holds leading positions. The strategy has delivered strong results: group adjusted operating profit rose 25% to GBP 2.2 billion in 2025, achieving the company's 2026 financial targets one year early.

In July 2025, Aviva completed its GBP 3.7 billion acquisition of Direct Line Group, making it the UK's largest personal lines insurer by market share, with approximately 20% of the UK motor insurance market. The combined group operates some of the UK's most recognised insurance brands.
